Choosing a ProgramIn the spring of their freshman year engineering students at Pitt have a big decision to make. What program are they going to go into? A few students come to Pitt knowing exactly what field they want to pursue, while most are not really sure. This is where the Freshman Engineering Office, mainly through Freshman Engineering Seminar, steps in. The Freshman Engineering Office works with students to help them decide which area(s) of engineering is best for them. This page contains additional resources to aid students in their decision. Straight from the topIn an effort to present students with accurate, up-to-date information and to clarify some general/common questions the program, chairs of each engineering program filled out a questionnaire about their departmental programs. Click on a departmental program to find out what they said:
Career ServicesThe University's Office of Career Services has numerous resources to aid any student in selecting a major. From interest surveys to literature on various fields and industries, a student can find more than enough information at Career Services. In addition, the University is so dedicated to aiding engineering students in their decisions and future successes that Career Services has an advisor that specifically works with all engineering students. We hope that this information is helpful to you. Good luck with your decision. Just keep in mind that you have until right before spring break of your freshman year to make a decision. (Program selection is facilitated in Freshman Engineering Seminar and students will receive much more detailed information as the time approaches each year.)
